What's your day like?

As a Full-Time Maintenance Technician with the City of Pharr, you will engage in a diverse range of skilled, journey-level tasks pivotal to the management and upkeep of our vital water and wastewater systems. Your responsibilities will include inspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and performing maintenance on equipment and machinery associated with the production, collection, and distribution of potable and reclaimed water. You'll handle various components, from pumps of various types to chemical storage systems, ensuring optimal functionality through rigorous testing and monitoring. Utilizing advanced control systems, you'll operate sewer lift stations while coordinating with construction crews on valve repairs and scheduling activities across multiple divisions. Your expertise will extend to interpreting blueprints and schematics, maintaining accurate records, and suggesting innovative improvements to enhance our waterworks operations.

To excel as a Full-Time Maintenance Technician with the City of Pharr, you must possess a robust skill set tailored for managing complex industrial and mechanical systems. A deep understanding of the principles, methods, and techniques involved in the maintenance and repair of advanced micro-filtration water treatment plants, reverse osmosis facilities, and waterworks systems is essential. Proficiency in basic electrical safety and confined space entry procedures is crucial, along with knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act and relevant regulations.

Your mechanical and electrical capabilities must be versatile, allowing you to diagnose and repair various equipment, including valves, motors, and pumps. Familiarity with precision and diagnostic instruments for measuring tolerances is vital, as is the ability to operate specialized equipment like pump installing rigs. Strong problem-solving skills, along with welding and cutting expertise, will enable you to develop effective solutions for any challenges encountered on the job.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial/mechanical equipment and machinery common to large state-of-the-art micro-filtration water treatment plants.
  • Knowledge in basic electrical safety.
  • Knowledge in confined space entry procedures, basic first aid, and asbestos removal.
  • Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act and relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Skill in mechanical and electrical ability as related to various job functions and equipment operations.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair a wide variety of industrial/mechanical equipment, systems, and machinery such as valves, motors, pumps, and other equipment common to the waterworks field.
  • Ability to use precision and diagnostic instruments to measure required tolerances of mechanical parts.
  • Ability to operate a pump installing rig; arc and TIG weld and oxygen-acetylene cut; identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work.
