Job description

Clinical Manager

This position ensures that the ANA scope of standards of practice and the code of ethics for nurses are the foundations for nursing practice for the Complex Concussion Clinic (CCC) and SHARE Programs. The position will also ensure ethical and quality practice for Case management and other assigned allied health professionals. This role is performed in accordance with CCC and SHARE departments and is collaborative with various departments across the organization. Works to establish appropriate program specific goals for assigned staff in collaboration with the Program manager and in collaboration with the program objectives prioritized by the hospital strategic plan within the five pillars of excellence. Works towards the strategic plan while keeping the mission of Shepherd Center in the forefront. Assumes responsibility related to assigned personnel, finance as delegated by the program manager, and nursing resources of the CCC and SHARE programs. This individual must be collaborative and organized. This position offers vital direction to the CCC and SHARE programs at Shepherd Center.

The Clinical Manager supervises case managers, nursing staff, resident assistants, and other identified allied health professionals in the CCC and SHARE Programs while ensuring quality care standards are upheld.

Participates in human resource functions for recruitment, hiring, retention, performance evaluations, rounding, development discussions, and corrective action.

Ensures support is provided to support staff in maintaining clinical competency in order to promote quality patient care.

Provides support and assistance with the direct and indirect service activities of the Case Management staff.

Provides support and supervision with direct and indirect service activities of Resident Assistants including on-call support nights and weekends.

Works toward the strategic plan while keeping the mission of Shepherd Center in the forefront.

Provides direct patient care : to include admission and discharge processes, medication administration and management, Lab Specimen collection, glucose monitoring, EHR documentation, patient / family education, wound care, ostomy care, and pain management.

Provides direct service when needed as back up if a case manager or case manager associate is not available or needs additional support.

Observes / collects thorough and accurate clinical data to ensure patient care and documentation requirements are met.

Provides direct assistance with customer service issues to work to create a win-win for all parties involved. Adhere to patient / family centered principles using the communication and engagement tools (OARS / AIDECT).

Ensures appropriate usage / ordering of supplies and proper charging. Manages supplies appropriately.

Evaluate patients' progress toward attainment of the outcomes, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Promotes and facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to coordinate care and plan operations among disciplines.

Collaborates with inter and intra-departmental supervisory staff to ensure quality patient care and functions within the scope of Shepherd Center's philosophy, policies and procedures.

Attends MD team conference and interdisciplinary meetings as assigned.

Serves as a leader and role model for professional behaviors regarding decision-making, career guidance, general supervision and collaboration with colleagues.

Facilitates CCC and SHARE staff meetings in conjunction with the Program Manager.

Participates in department leadership meetings.

Participates in Nurse Leadership.

Collaborates with inter and intra-departmental supervisory staff to ensure quality patient care and functions within the scope of Shepherd Center's philosophy, policies and procedures.

Provides the team with active support by meeting with patient's, families, and vendors to create the best outcomes for our patient treatment plans.

Serves as a resource person of expertise within department, Shepherd Center, and the community. Understand ethical considerations, patient in crisis in relations to finances, neglect, abuse, psychosocial needs, etc.

Responsible for the medical operations of 80Peachtree Park.

Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee / patient / visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

Performs other duties as required / requested / assigned.

Required Minimum Education

Graduate of a nursing program from an accredited college or university requires.

Required Minimum Certification

  • BLS or BLS Instructor required.
  • Active Georgia RN license or NLC / eNLC Multistate License.
  • Certification in Case Management within two years of position start date.

Required Minimum Experience

  • Three (3) years RN experience including at least two(2) years leadership of relevant leadership experience.
  • Clinical operations experience.
  • 2-5 years of management / leadership experience.
  • Required Minimum Skills

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic competencies are expected in nursing practice, patient and employee safety, infection control, performance improvement, practice innovation, professional nursing practice, standards of clinical nursing practice, and systems for patient safety.
  • Demonstrates competency in time management, organization, prioritization and critical thinking by planning and organizing work assignments and prioritizing the specific needs of the patient.
  • Ability to assess patient and family needs and coordinate appropriate nursing plan of care.
  • Takes responsibility for growing professionally and seek opportunities for improving skills.
  • Communicates effectively using timely verbal, non-verbal and written communication.
  • Willingly adapts to changing work demands and work environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Case management experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with patients with Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, and / or behavioral health preferred.
  • Physical Demands

  • Uses body, tools, or special devices to safely, effectively, and efficiently to move, guide, or place patients. Involves some latitude for judgement with regard to precision attained and the selection of what adaptive device(s) to utilize.
  • Ability to transfer and position patients, consistent with lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Working Conditions
