Job Description
Founded in 1967, Blue Ridge Community College has served the residents of the central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for over 50 years.
Its comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational / technical and college / university transfer programs.
The College also provides non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline / field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
Teaching may include a variety of formats : face to face, remote, and online. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs.
The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
- Teach classes with sound goals and methods utilizing the entire class period.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of BRCC and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or specialization.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
- Experience teaching adult learners
- Experience teaching in Higher Education
- Experience in curriculum design and development
- AHA BLS HeartSaver instructor a plus
