Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) position requiring IA or compact RN licensure and strong telemetry and cardiac drip titration skills.
Responsibilities
Work in a hospital-based Stepdown (PCU) unit with a 22-bed capacityPatients include those with heart failure, Afib, respiratory distress, and strokeNurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4RNs are required to titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerinRNs must read and interpret their own telemetry stripsUse of Epic EMR systemCPAP equipment is used on the unitOne 12-hour unit-specific orientation shift is providedShifts are 12 hours, with both day and night schedules available (0630-1900 and 1830-0700)Cyclic scheduling and every other weekend requiredExpected to float to ICU if appropriate and experiencedCharge nurse participates in full patient assignmentA pass / fail skills exam will be administered during orientation; 90% or higher required to continue assignmentFast-paced unit environment with frequent admissions and dischargesPositive attitude, teamwork, and patient-centered approach are important for successHoliday coverage includes 1 major and 1 minor holiday per contractArtificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areasMust provide all requested time off (RTO) upfront; additional RTO after submission is not permittedNurse aids / patient care techs support the unit with a 1 : 10 ratioFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyRequirements
Active IA or compact RN license required at time of submission; pending licenses not acceptedMinimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in a stepdown or telemetry settingCurrent ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications requiredExperience with Epic EMR preferredAbility to titrate and manage cardiac dripsProven ability to interpret telemetry stripsMust provide a copy of driver's license for radius verification (must live at least 50 miles from facility)No current full time, part time, or PRN employment with CommonSpirit facilities including CHI or Dignity in past yearBenefits
