CRNA Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
Summary :
The Surgical First Assistant (SFA) works in a dual role as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and a First Assistant;
This position assists surgeons and surgical teams during major surgical services and complex surgical procedures. This position functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse when performing the role of CST and works under the supervision of a Surgeon when performing the role of First Assistant.
Education :
Associate of Arts Degree in Surgical Technology AND completion of a Surgical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABSA Required.
Certifications / Requirements :
- Current CPR certification is required.
- One of the below required :
- Area of Study Major : Surgical Assistant, associate degree in the field of Surgical Technology.
- Certification as a Surgical Assistant under the Liaison Council on Certification for Surgical Assistants by graduation from a CAAHEP or American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA).
- Certification under the National Center for Competency Testing
- Certification as a Surgical Assistant through the National Commision for the certification of Surgical Assistants (NCSSA)
Experience :
Minimum three year's experience as a certified surgical technologist required, two years clinical experience as a Surgical Assistant preferred.
