Description :
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider orders and administering medications.
The RN assists Licensed Independent Providers in the examination and treatment of patients.
Nursing and supervisory techniques are applied in the care, treatment, and referrals of residents.
All technical and clinical procedures performed are within the scope of education and licensure.
Nursing skills are applied in the area and treatment of residents.
The RN attends sick calls with the physician to see residents.
They prepare a list of residents to be examined and prepare the examining room and equipment.
Pill call is operated, medication is dispensed, and documentation is completed as required.
The RN communicates with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders.
Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and Licensed Independent Providers are notified for treatment orders.
Coordination of professional medical services provided by contract personnel is also required.
Monitoring of inpatient hospitalizations for early releases is conducted whenever appropriate.
The RN provides guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care provided by staff.
A good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, and outside provider agencies is maintained.
Established corporate and facility policies and procedures are utilized in decision-making.
Regular evaluation of medical services is conducted to prevent inappropriate use of services.
Absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records must be maintained.
The RN assists with reviewing medical files to ensure all provided services are documented.
There is close monitoring of all potential catastrophic illnesses.
Pharmacy use is audited for adherence to formulary as directed or required.
Compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances, is crucial.
Observation and recording of resident behavior are performed.
The medical unit is inspected for items that could be used as contraband.
Health counseling and education are provided on an individual or group basis as required.
The RN assists in preparing and maintaining a variety of records, reports, and logs as necessary.
The ability to read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures is necessary.
The RN is involved in reviewing and responding to lawsuits, attending court hearings when necessary.
Recommendations for physical safety requirements necessary for a safe working environment are evaluated.
Facilitation of accreditation of the medical program by providing appropriate medical services is conducted.
Safety and accident reports are prepared and disseminated as required by policies and procedures.
The RN takes appropriate actions in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
Residents are escorted or coordinated for movement to and from different areas for medical treatment.
Searches of people and objects capable of concealing contraband are conducted.
Functions may involve working in confined areas and checking security measures.
Preventing or diffusing potentially disruptive situations is part of the role.
Rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters include administering basic emergency medical aid.
Securing and evacuating individuals from confined areas is required.
