Code Enforcement Official
Provide project management and technical code assistance to architects, engineers, and other design professionals responsible for all D&C projects.
Research in technical aspects of and intimate familiarity with the NYS code and family of codes.
Investigation of NYS code and jurisdictional code matters and their application.
Meet with permit applicants, architects, and engineers to respond to questions and provide technical information on code requirements.
Review and code related response to building plans and building permit applications for compliance with the NYS Uniform Fire, Building, and Energy Codes and / or provides project management activities to ensure such activities are assigned and effectively administered.
Schedule, coordinate and conduct compliance inspections of existing buildings, new construction projects, alterations, repairs and demolitions and / or provide project management activities to ensure such activities are assigned and effectively administered.
Schedule, coordinate and conduct final compliance inspections and recommends issuance of a Code Compliance Certificate for new and rehab construction projects, verifying that the final building is fully approved for occupancy and that the building is in compliance with Uniform Code, specifications, and good construction practices and / or provides project management activities to ensure such activities are assigned and effectively administered.
Review outside requests for Code Compliance Certificates and advises applicants of any unresolved issues.
Prepare written materials to support code administration and enforcement activities.
Recommend to supervisor's potential legal orders and notices such as stop-work orders, compliance notices, and notices forbidding occupancy.
Perform other duties and special projects as required.
Operational Needs :
Travel is required (approximately 20%).
Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Minimum Qualifications :
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)
A current certification as a Code Enforcement Official pursuant to Title 19 NYCRR, Part 434 or Part 1208 AND Required experience : Six years of full-time experience
No degree : six years of required experience.
Associate degree : two years of required experience.
Bachelor's degree : four years of experience.
Master's degree : five years of experience.
Doctorate degree : six years of experience.
Qualifying degrees : architectural engineering, architecture, civil engineering, construction technology, electrical engineering, fire protection engineering, fire protection technology, or mechanical engineering.
Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a Senior Safety & Health Inspector title and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
OR Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 18 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
NOTE : IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.
