Job Description :
The Department of Psychology within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Albany invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Although the area of behavioral neuroscience investigation can be broadly defined, we are particularly interested in applicants specializing in brain and behavioral processes underlying sensory-perceptual processing, learning and memory, emotion, stress systems, cognition, neurodegenerative disease, and / or mental health disorders. Candidates should employ modern research approaches such as Optogenetics, Chemogenetics, 2-photon imaging, genetic mouse models, or machine learning methods. Ultimately, we seek principal investigators with the potential to secure federal funding and demonstrate leadership to run a laboratory. The applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the Department of Psychology and participate in service at the departmental, college, and university levels.
The Department of Psychology offers Bachelor's, Master's, PhD degrees with concentrations in Behavioral Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Industrial / Organizational Psychology. The University at Albany also has a vibrant community of Neuroscience faculty across various departments who are associated with the Center for Neuroscience Research.
Additionally, the Department of Psychology and the College of Arts and Sciences, offers a collaborative and supportive environment. This position emphasizes candidates who pursue excellence in research, teaching, and service at an R1 institution that serves a diverse community and mentors the next generation of scientists.
Primary Responsibilities :
Research : Scholarship and the creation of new knowledge through scholarly or creative activities. Conducting innovative research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals, including presenting research at professional meetings and conferences and securing external funding to support programmatic research.
Teaching : Educating students, mentoring them, and fostering their intellectual development, which includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and course preparation and development.
Service : Contributing to the governance and functioning of the university, college, and department including participating in admissions, advising, and mentoring graduate students and chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees

Professional Rank and Salary Range : A5, Assistant Professor 10 Months, Salary commensurate with experience.
