Make a Difference at Craftsman Painter
Paint makes a big difference but most painting companies fail to make a difference in the lives of their people and their communities and often, they provide poor customer experiences that leave a mark on the entire industry.
At Craftsman Painter, first and foremost, we believe in making a difference in the lives of our customers by giving them a great painting experience and quality work so that they can enjoy their home and increase its value.
Second, we believe in making a difference in the lives of our people. We are building a culture where the quality of life and overall happiness of our craftsman community improves. Do they feel taken care of? Can they advance their careers? Do they enjoy the work? Do they feel belonging? Do they feel like they are making a difference?

Job Description
Craftsman Painter is thrilled to announce a job opening for a skilled Fine Artist (Painter) to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for artists who are eager to apply their painting skills to various real-world projects. Bring your skilled hands to the painting trade where you will have the ability to transform homes and office spaces with rich and beautiful color. The role is ideal for individuals who enjoy project-based work that is visually and aesthetically engaging. Our projects offer both creative satisfaction and professional growth opportunities in the field of architectural painting and finishing. At Craftsman Painter, we believe that art skills are not only about creating traditional art but also serve as a valuable asset in professional painting. This position offers the chance to merge artistic talent with practical applications, making it a perfect career path for artists who also appreciate the craftsmanship involved in painting. And while the demand for artistic expression like mural painting is somewhat low, you'll find that beautifying a home or business space with solid rich color or elaborate wallpaper hangings is gratifying and rewarding.
A Short History
Historically, the lines between “fine artist” and “skilled artisan” were often blurred, particularly in the realm of architectural painting. Before the modern concept of the independent fine artist, many painters operated more as trades people, applying their skills to functional and decorative aspects of buildings.
In the ancient world, art was deeply integrated into daily life and monumental structures. Roman interiors, for instance, were lavishly painted with illusionistic mythological or landscape scenes, demonstrating sophisticated techniques to create depth and artistry within architectural spaces. These were not merely decorations, but often served to transform the perception of the physical space.
The Renaissance marked a significant period where artists and architects were closely intertwined. While the notion of the “fine artist” began to emerge, with prominent painters gaining higher social status and signing their works, many continued to execute large-scale frescoes and murals within churches, civic buildings, and private residences.
The Industrial Revolution brought changes to the painting trade, with the rise of mass-produced paints, but the demand for skilled artisans for architectural finishes continued. In the 19th and 20th centuries, while some artists moved away from traditional patronage and explored more experimental forms, architectural elements continued to inspire painters. Prior to the advent of the MFA as a terminal degree, many fine artists, worked in trades such as painting, plaster, carpentry, sign painting, etc. to support their livelihood while pursuing their personal art practice.
In essence, the history of fine artists and their work in the trades, especially architectural painting, reveals a continuous interplay between artistic skill, decorative function, and the representation of the built environment. From ancient murals to the specialized genre of architectural painting, artists have consistently lent their talents to enhancing and interpreting the structures that shape human experience.
