A leading workers’ compensation insurance carrier is seeking a Chief Underwriting Officer to provide strategic direction, leadership, and technical expertise to a high-performing underwriting and risk management team. This role will oversee underwriting operations, drive portfolio profitability, and ensure disciplined risk selection across key business segments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the underwriting team to achieve business and individual performance goals.
- Establish and maintain underwriting best practices, technical standards, and performance controls.
- Manage portfolio results, analyzing performance to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support company-wide growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
- Build and strengthen relationships with agents, brokers, and industry partners.
- Contribute to strategic planning, forecasting, and expense management.
- Utilize data analytics and business intelligence tools to inform underwriting strategy and decisions.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; CPCU or CIC strongly preferred.15+ years of complex workers’ compensation underwriting experienceConstruction underwriting experience preferredProven leadership skills with experience coaching and developing teams.Strong understanding of national workers’ compensation markets, rating bureaus, and state regulations.Proficiency in analytics tools such as Power BI, Excel, or Tableau.Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.Travel up to 20% required.This is an opportunity for a forward-thinking underwriting leader to shape strategy, foster innovation, and drive profitable growth in a collaborative, performance-oriented environment.
Compensation
$200,000-$230,000 per year
