Key Responsibilities
The EV Controls Engineer at CNH Industrial America LLC in Livonia, MI will develop electrical drivetrain system controls algorithm for new hybrid drivetrain and BEV projects. Identify and implement efficient control strategies to manage multiple energy flows across the electrified drivetrainincluding interactions with high-voltage battery systems. Support the creation and review of software and embedded control unit hardware requirements, ensuring alignment with both powertrain and BMS functionality. Participates actively in software / hardware requirements reviews and contributes to the development of system-level BMS requirements related to thermal control, state estimation, safety limits, and power distribution. Develop and review software architectural design based on software and hardware requirements and ensure traceability back to requirements. Design and implement control algorithms for software unit features, with a focus on drivetrain energy management, torque coordination, regenerative braking integration, and battery charge / discharge control strategies. Develop Model-In-Loop test plans to verify unit design implementation, perform MIL test and document results. Ensure complete unit design test coverage and traceability. Integrate multiple software units both internal and external to achieve the set requirements. Develop Software description documentation to describe overall software architectural design and unit software feature designs. Also support component DVP development. Interface cross-functionally with software, battery systems, and vehicle integration teams to ensure seamless functionality of electrified powertrain throughout the development lifecycle. Ensure the use of engineering standards, methodologies, and global product development processes in engineering team's daily work. Interface with Electrification Technology engineering team for HV / LV system performance & integration. Telecommuting permitted 2 days per week. 15% domestic and international travel required as business needs dictate. Salary : $111,426 - $140,625 / year.
Experience Required
Requires a master's degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering or electrical engineering and 2 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Control Engineer or related occupation. The 2 years of experience must include 2 years of experience with each of the following : 1) embedded controls algorithm development using tools including Matlab / Simulink along with code generation; 2) executing Model In Loop, Software In Loop testing using Simulink test manager or other equivalent tools, developing Plant / simulation physical models using Simscape or equivalent toolchain; 3) authoring test cases, configuring Hardware in Loop test environment and executing processor-in-loop testing; 4) supporting ECU hardware pin allocation, building test bench setup and executing processor-in-loop testing; 5) understanding system requirements and decomposing them into controls and software requirements; 6) developing test plans to verify requirements using ALM tools including polarion, IBM doors or equivalent; 7) calibrating software using calibration tools including Etas Inca, Vector Canape or equivalent; 8) supporting field development and testing activities from controls perspective by collecting and analyzing CAN / LIN data using tools including vector canalyzer, Etas Busmaster or equivalent.
