Overview
Senior Civil and Drainage Engineer role at WSP in the U.S. location : Houston, Austin, or Dallas, TX. Be involved in projects across Texas and Louisiana with the Earth & Environment Team and contribute to a growing organization that helps clients meet objectives and solve challenges.
In this role you will lead and work on a variety of challenging projects, including large site developments, stormwater management studies, floodplain analyses and mapping, and other related work across multiple industries. Client types may be private, local, state, or federal. You will develop and manage clients and opportunities, lead people, and support the growth of the Texas / Louisiana regional strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead projects as Project Manager, coordinating a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and subconsultants. Serve as the project point of contact with clients, regulators, contractors, architects, and other design disciplines.
- Support projects as Senior Civil Project Engineer or other appropriate roles. Perform or supervise design and analysis for site, grading, utility, and drainage tasks.
- Own project management responsibilities, including oversight of schedule, financial performance, adherence to PM and QA / QC plans, and risk management.
- Provide construction services as requested by the client, including construction site visits.
Business Development
Engage with clients to develop new business leads and project pursuits. Lead new opportunity pursuits, proposal preparation, and contract negotiations.Represent the firm in the market through involvement in client and industry events and associations.Collaborate with local and national WSP market experts to provide innovative solutions.People and Performance Leadership
Manage and mentor people, supporting growth and professional development.Contribute to the management, growth, and development of Civil and Drainage Engineering teams.Focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators and contribute to the success of the Texas / Louisiana Region.Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas.Minimum 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in civil and drainage engineering analysis and design, with substantial Texas experience.Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles applied to site civil and water resource projects, including analysis, design, permitting, and construction.Expertise in Stormwater Management, Drainage, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation; proficient with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies / models, hydraulic models, and project tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, Bluebeam, and ArcGIS.Working knowledge of 2D Hydraulic Analysis (HEC-RAS 2D) and floodplain risk mapping.Understanding of construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance, and record-keeping; experience obtaining site development permits, CLOMR / LOMR, and related permits.Project management experience for civil and drainage projects, including proposals, budgets, schedules, staff allocation, subconsultant management, and design deliverables.Experience with client development and management to create new opportunities.Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences; demonstrated leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.Ability to work independently and lead junior team members with a focus on QA / QC; strong problem-solving, data analysis, and decision-making skills.Ability to coordinate and direct subconsultants and field personnel to complete tasks safely and efficiently.Ability to work non-standard schedules as project requirements may demand; occasional travel may be required.Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering.Project experience in the Houston area with the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD).Project experience in the Austin area with the City of Austin Watershed Department.Professional Engineer license (PE) in Louisiana.Project experience in Louisiana.Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).About WSP
