Credit Strategy Data Scientist
Remote (U.S.-Based) | One Year Contract | $50 / hr (based on experience)
Join a dynamic credit risk strategy team at the intersection of finance and data science. The Credit Strategy Data Scientist will design, test, and deploy data-driven solutions to mitigate loss, enhance credit risk performance, and drive sustainable growth across a fast-paced FinTech environment.
Position Overview
We’re seeking an analytical and motivated Credit Strategy Data Scientist to lead key projects in credit risk assessment, loss mitigation, and predictive modeling. This role involves designing detection rules, analyzing large datasets, and presenting actionable insights to cross-functional partners. You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and risk leaders to improve credit decisioning and customer outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and refine risk models and decision rules to identify and mitigate potential losses
Investigate novel and complex risk cases, identifying root causes and emerging trends
Design dashboards and visualizations to track key credit KPIs
Partner with product and engineering teams to improve risk controls and automation
Present strategic recommendations to leadership and stakeholders
Drive measurable results that balance loss prevention with customer eligibility
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Mining, or related field
2+ years of experience in risk analytics, data science, or data analysis within FinTech or payments
Proficiency in Python , SQL , and Excel (including major data science libraries)
Experience working with large and complex datasets
Strong communication skills with the ability to translate data insights into business impact
Experience building dashboards and visualizations (e.g., Tableau )
Preferred Experience
Exposure to AWS , payment rule systems, and credit products
Background in risk modeling, data storytelling, or rule development
Experience in cross-functional collaboration between product, engineering, and data teams
Requirements
