The Opportunity :

In this role, you will report to the and will work closely with the Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Location : Waltham, MA (position will relocate to Cambridge, MA in 2026)

Shift : Mon - Fri, 7 : 00 am - 3 : 30 pm

Hourly Rate : $29.00

What we're looking for

Education :

High School diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline preferred.

Experience :

1-2 years of lab experience (undergraduate lab work accepted).

Hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in a cell culture or cryopreservation environment.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; LIMS experience a plus.

Experience with SOPs and quality / safety protocols.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.

Team-oriented with a proactive mindset.

Able to lift 40 lbs.

Strong organizational and communication skills with a keen attention to detail.

Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Cell Bank Technician to join our team supporting Avantor's Cell Banking operations in Waltham, MA. This is an exciting opportunity to provide hands-on operational support for cutting-edge scientific research while working directly onsite at a leading customer facility.

As a Cell Bank Technician, you will play a vital role in the safe and efficient management of cryopreserved cell lines stored in a secure, access-restricted liquid nitrogen environment. In this role you will :

Receive, label, log, store, track, dispatch, return, and dispose of cell lines in accordance with established protocols.

Manually handle heavy cryobank columns to select and prepare cell lines for delivery and shipment.

Transport cell lines from the Cell Bank to designated drop-off locations and assist with external shipments.

Utilize Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for tracking and documentation.

Manage inventory related to cell banking (e.g., Cell Boxes, Cryoshippers, CryoPods).

Maintain the cleanliness and organization of cell banking areas.

Identify and report safety concerns promptly.

Recommend and support improvements to current practices and workflows.
