Library Security Monitor
The Appleton Public Library is seeking dedicated and experienced individuals to join our team as Library Security Monitor. These part-time, non-benefitted roles are ideal for individuals with experience in public safety, security, social services, conflict resolution, or similar fields who are committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for library patrons and staff. The unarmed Library Security Monitor will be responsible for enforcing library policies, de-escalating situations, contacting local law enforcement when necessary, and adhering to library policies and laws regarding privacy.
Examples of Duties :
- Monitor library premises to ensure safety and security for all patrons and staff.
- Enforce library policies and address any violations in a professional and respectful manner.
- De-escalate potentially disruptive or dangerous situations to prevent escalation.
- Liaise with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of security protocols and procedures.
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the library to deter inappropriate behavior.
- Aid patrons and staff in emergency situations.
- Participate in training sessions and stay updated on best practices for security and de-escalation.
- Follow library laws concerning privacy and confidentiality of patron information.
- Collaborate with library administration to ensure duties align with the library's mission and policies.
- Work may involve nights and weekends depending on the schedule. Before and after-hours opportunities may exist to support events that occur in the library meeting room after the library is closed or prior to opening.
Typical Qualifications :
Experience in public safety, security, social services, conflict resolution, or a related field.Strong understanding of public safety practices and de-escalation techniques.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.Commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all library users.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, non-armed security measures, de-escalation techniques, library privacy laws, and regulations.Supplemental Information :
