Unit : Pediatric Cardiology and Medicine Stepdown

Start Date : 11 / 14 / 2025

End Date : 2 / 13 / 2026

Contract Duration : 13 weeks

Nursing Shift : 12-hour nights (19 : 00 – 07 : 00), 3 shifts / week

Guaranteed Hours : Yes

Weekend Requirement : Every other weekend

Patient Ratio : 1 : 4

Charting System : Epic

Parking : Onsite (fee applies)

Estimated Weekly Salary : $1880–$2020

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut or compact state (pending license accepted if active prior to start date)

Minimum 2 years of recent pediatric stepdown or cardiac stepdown RN experience (1.5 years accepted with Level I Trauma or travel nursing experience)

BLS certification required

PEARS certification preferred

Experience with Level I Trauma Center patients required

Prior travel nursing experience strongly preferred

Proficient in dysrhythmia interpretation and management

Experience with pediatric stepdown, eating disorders, and broad pediatric diagnoses

Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)

Ability to float within pediatric units as needed

One professional reference required

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, compassionate nursing care to pediatric patients (ages 0–20) with diverse medical diagnoses : cardiology, endocrine / diabetes, nephrology, sepsis, respiratory illnesses, GI viruses, dehydration, cellulitis, and genetics

Monitor and manage cardiac stepdown patients, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management

Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams : physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response teams

Document patient care accurately using Epic charting system

Participate in block scheduling and float to other pediatric units as required

Provide patient and family education and support throughout the care continuum

Maintain compliance with hospital policies and safety standards
