The Student Union Inc. is 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San José State University in downtown San José California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building the Provident Credit Union Event Center and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The StudentUnion Inc. functions as part of the StudentAffairs Divisionon campus and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority faculty and administrators.

Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Student Union Operations Manager the Student Union Night Supervisor ensures the safety security and comfort of Student Union building guests. Responsible for event set-up operations and customer service functions during evening hours including monitoring of evening programs and activities building staff enforcing building policies writing reports and ensuring preparation of the building for next day of business.
Essential Functions and Tasks
- Oversees operation of facility during evening hours and / or in absence of the Operations Manager or the Associate Executive Director.
- Ensures safety and security of Student Union building and its patrons.
- Enforces all building policies and regulations.
- Responsible for hiring training and supervising SU Building Assistants and Building Supervisors
- Supervises evening Building Supervisor staff (Students) and assists them in closing of building at end of day.
- Coordinates with evening Event Services and Bowling Center management staff for success of evening programs in various areas of the building.
- Monitors night operations staff to ensure cleanliness of interior and exterior of Student Union.
- Working with Event Services staff and Building Supervisor staff ensures preparation of meeting spaces before and after each use.
- Oversees and may assist with striking and setting up ballrooms and other event spaces for special events.
- Directs building emergencies and evacuations as necessary.
- Monitor attendance and traffic within the Student Union facilities to guarantee the adherence to state and county regulations such as fire code accessibility etc.
- Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Research and recommend improvements to the Student Union facilities policies and procedures
- Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.

- Demonstrated supervisory or management experience including selecting training coordinating evaluating and supervising student employees.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing prioritizing and coordinating work activities in a customer service setting.
- Collaborative partner with various campus departments to support success of student Union Operations.
- Knowledge of personnel management budgeting and event management.
- Ability to direct management goals and facilitate change.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate organize and prioritize projects with attention to detail for event set ups and operational needs.
- Ability to compile prepare write and review reports.
- Knowledge of safety procedures protocols risk management plans as they relate to facility operations.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Student Union policies and procedures and ability to manage situations which require resolution and problem solving.
- Experience in computer applications such as : Google Suite (Gmail Docs Slides Sheets Forms etc.) Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint etc.).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The position works in a wide variety of environments including both a typical office as well as an outdoors and indoor facility program-oriented environment.

- In general the position works a schedule based on evening operational needs 3 p.m. - 11p.m. Monday - Friday may work day and weekends as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelors Degree in a closely related field.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Current CPR / First Aid and AED certifications required or must be obtained within the first month of employment.
- Within the first month all new employees are required to complete the following online training sessions through CSULearn the Universitys employee training platform. Employees will be enrolled in the training soon after their appointment is processed and will be notified via email from
CSU - Injury and Illness Prevention Program - one time course
- CSU - Preventing Discrimination and Harassment for Supervisors required every two years
- CSU - Sexual Misconduct Prevention Program (Title IX) - required every year
- Data Security and FERPA - required every two years
- Hazard Communication Cal / OSHA - one time course
- SJSU COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols Training - one time course
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 or more years of facility operations experience.
- Demonstrated experience within a university community including student unions student activities and residence life or student development.
- Experience in a large non-profit corporation.
- Involvement in professional societies and organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate the role campus life plays in recruitment student success retention and graduation and a commitment to college student development and student leadership.

Background Check and Fingerprinting
Student Union employees are required to undergo and completed a successful background check that includes verification of employment and education as well as a check of criminal records for employment. Candidates for positions where the employee will come in regular contact with minors and cash management will be required to be fingerprinted. This policy includes emergency hires and may also be applicable to volunteers depending on the work they will be doing.
