All remote work, if allowed, must be performed in a state in which Embrace is registered to do business or presently open to payroll withholding, unemployment insurance as well as workers compensation.

Job Summary
This position requires that candidates already be certified to underwrite 5 out of 6 following loan types : Conforming, FHS DE Designation, VA LAPP and VA SAR designations or must obtain VA within 1 year, recent VA underwriting experience within last 2 years, Jumbo and Beyond.
Lastly, candidates must have a proven track record of exceptional customer service, demonstrated ability to provide leadership to teammates in team leader’s absence, and commitment to honoring Embrace’s values in the workplace.
Responsibilities & Activities
The role will be responsible for Underwriting functions including :
- Underwrite residential mortgage loans in accordance with VA / HUD and internal guidelines ensuring compliance with company and investor standards.
- Analyze files to ensure loans meet all program and product requirements for designated investor / agency.
- Review and analyze the loan application and supporting documents in order to determine if the borrower is capable of paying back the mortgage.
- Request additional information as needed on all documents to help determine loan risk.
- Counsel sales on potential counteroffers and communicating loan decisions to sales teams.
- Meet all departmental goals for productivity, quality, corporate service level commitments and adherence to all fair lending practices.
- Remain current on all product / investor guidelines as well as company policies and procedures.
- Effectively manage daily and weekly / monthly review goals.
- Communicate and document reasons for approval or rejection of loans so clients and loan officers are well-informed of decisions.
Required Competencies
Mortgage Industry Knowledge Familiarity and exposure with home loans and residential mortgages such as Conforming, FHS DE designation, VA LAPP, VA SAR designations and VA conventional loans.
At least 2 years of mortgage underwriting experience or mortgage lending experience required.
- Customer and Personal Service Exposure to meeting quality standards for services in order to uphold the company’s exceptional customer service reputation.
- Mathematical Skills - Ability to do equations and arithmetic at a middle school grade level in order to avoid costly economic errors on behalf of Embrace Home Loans.
- Information Gathering Analyze and collect borrower financial information, documentation and records in order to identify and prevent financial risks to the company.
- Time Management Manage loan pipeline to ensure that deadlines are met on or before due date in order to keep the pipeline flowing properly.
- Microsoft Office Suite Proficiency navigating and using Outlook, Word and Excel in order to attend virtual meetings, create appointments with clients and record or manipulate customer data.
- Collaboration / Communication Work alongside internal team members such as loan originators, loan processors and closing officers to provide a constant flow of communication regarding the loan application status.
- Strong Ethics - Comply with federal regulations and Fair Housing Act requirements, in addition to Embrace Home Loans’ specific guidelines and practices.
