The Senior Detention Officer assists in the supervisionof the administrative and operational security activities in adetention facility.

Directly supervises Detention Officersassigned to the shift. Provides for the protection of eachinmate / resident and the preservation of each inmate’s / resident’slegal rights.

Supervises the count of inmates / residents anddirects adherence to all key control procedures. Must be ableto work any post assignment on any shift.

Provide general supervision of Detention Officers andinmates / residents on the shift in the performance of their dutiesand evaluate as prescribed by the facility and corporatepolicy.

Conduct inspections of all housing and general useareas to ensure that proper standards, facility operatingprocedures and corporate guidelines of security, health, safety,sanitation and welfare are maintained;

direct staff andinmate / resident resources to correct problemsdetected.

Assist in supervising the internal and externalsecurity of the facility; routinely inspect posts to observealertness of personnel and to confirm security is properlymaintained at alltimes.

Qualifications :

Highschool diploma, GED certification orequivalent.

Threeyears experience in a criminal justice field, which preferablyincludes one year in a supervisorycapacity.

Additional education may be substituted on ayear-for-year basis.

Completion of basic pre-service officer training and,where applicable, be a non-commissioned security officer licensedby the state ofemployment.

A valid driver's license isrequired.

Minimum age requirement : Must be at least 18years of age.
