Street Maintenance Worker I

Job Title

Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and machinery, including chainsaws, saw cutting machines, tampers, power tools, and utility vehicles. Performs maintenance and repairs on City roadways, sidewalks, right-of-ways, and other infrastructure with general labor duties daily. After-hours on-call work, as well as occasional night and weekend hours, are required. Collaborates with other divisions / departments and performs related duties as assigned.

Maintains roadways by cleaning away debris and waste, repairing potholes, crack sealing, and road patching with hot asphalt. Works closely with crew members to complete tasks directed by the Team Lead and / or the Supervisor. Maintains and repairs streets, parking lots, curbs, gutters and sidewalks, and ADA compliant ramps. Sets forms and performs concrete pours and finishing. Performs skilled, and semi-skilled landscape construction, maintenance, and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility. Maintains rights-of-way landscape, undeveloped properties, and alleys. Trims trees, chops weeds, trims bushes, and applies herbicides to destroy weeds. Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems. Operates service trucks, gas-powered machines, lift gates, landscape equipment, and power tools. Inputs data into the work order software. Assist with setting up traffic control and work zones. Maintains vehicles and equipment. Follows all safety rules and regulations, keeps work area and equipment in safe operating condition; reports safety hazards, traffic problems, equipment problems, and emergency matters. Performs other duties as assigned.

A High School diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year of experience in construction or maintenance-related fields. A valid Arizona Operator's Driver's License or the ability to obtain at the time of hire. The following certifications / licenses will need to be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire :

• Work Zone Traffic Control Certification
• Certified Flagger

The following certification(s) are preferred, but not required : Applicator License with categories of Right-of-Way and Turf / Ornamental

Work requires the ability to read signs, maps, reports, work orders, logs, and instructions. Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Work requires the ability to write work orders, reports, and logs. Work requires the ability to properly manage time and assigned city resources.

The position has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.

Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures. Professional judgment is required to apply the proper course of action. The incumbents in this position may contact others within the organization, including similar work units or departments within the City. The employee must maintain regular attendance and be able to work in a constant state of alertness and safety.
