Description
Summary : The Legal Orientation Program for Custodians ("LOPC") is an orientation program for custodians of unaccompanied minors who are - or, once where - in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement ("ORR"). The LOPC Program Manager provides group orientation workshops to the custodians, which provide a general overview of custodian responsibilities towards the minor, the immigration court process, possible relief from deportation, school enrollment and social services accessible to the minor. Under the supervision of the Director of Bronx Immigration Services, the Case Coordinator will support the LOPC program operational and administrative needs and will provide custodians with case management support related to the care of the unaccompanied minors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operational responsibilities :
- Assisting substantively with the in-house and outreach trainings, presentations, and / or workshops.
- Confirming and canceling appointments for custodians prior to each training, presentation, and / or workshop.
- Preparing all required materials and resources prior to each training, presentation, and / or workshop.
- Registering custodians' information in the database to track data and metrics in concordance with current contract and internal reporting requirements.
- Serving as a secondary point of contact for unaccompanied minors who are released in the New York area and for their custodians.
- Translating materials into Spanish, as needed.
- Case management responsibilities :
- Assessing the case management needs of the custodians as related to the care of the unaccompanied minors.
- Developing a database of educational, medical, counseling, and legal services available in New York City, on Long Island, and in the Lower Hudson Valley.
- Referring the custodians to service providers, as needed.
- Updating the database to reflect the service referrals.
- Advocating for minors and their custodians regarding school enrollment, health care assistance, and access to other services.
- Administrative responsibilities :
- Managing activities of front desk reception when the Operations Assistant is out of the office and / or on break.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work :
This is a full-time position 9 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM, Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be required on evenings when orientations are provided.

Education and / or experience required :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in related field, or graduation from high school and equivalent professional training related to the position.Skills, Licenses, and / or competencies required :
