Position Summary
The Senior Engineer is responsible for preparing logistics analysis and engineering work involving all aspects of transportation and warehouse design. They design, develop or implement comprehensive supply chain solutions to solve complex supply chain initiatives or problems, for customers, development activities and requests for proposals. These solutions may involve multiple modes and service lines. They use methods or tools under the guidance of their manager to create models, tools or processes that will be used by Analysts and Operations daily. They work on multiple projects or solutions concurrently in a self-directed manner with little supervision, and have experience working on various teams in different phases of the process with multiple customers. They focus on complex analytics, strategic network designs or implementations of solutions.
Major Responsibilities
- Conduct logistics analysis in support of both operational and new sales projects.
- Develop and implement engineering solutions, including programming / software development.
- Provide maintenance and support activities for all existing solutions, including software maintenance as needed.
- Prepare technical and user documentation for all solutions.
- Prepare results into documents and presentation formats.
- Develop a solution approach with Product Line Manager in the region.
- Develop an operations improvement approach with regional operations.
- Work on multiple projects or solutions concurrently.
- Perform a wide range of tasks with minimal supervision or direction and the ability to work independently.
- Participate in cross-functional groups to create the expected customer outcomes.
- Work effectively as a team member to accomplish assigned goals.
- Interact with internal and external customers as needed.
- Lead smaller projects or specific elements of larger projects.
- Direct interfaces with the customer during the implementation or development process; collect data, understand customer business needs and expectations.
- Meet customer deadlines by providing required designs and analysis.
- Develop an understanding of customer needs and take actions to ensure those needs are met.
- Support the preparation of results into proposal documents or other engineering reports and presentations for customers and management.
- Ensure a solution will meet financial goals and provide cost savings; often tasked with reducing overall cost for assigned projects.
- Estimate cost savings when developing solutions.
- Participate in the selection process including onboarding and training assistance of new associates.
- Mentor and guide newer associates.
- Resolve issues quickly, communicate status, and collaborate with subject matter experts to fix problems with guidance from a senior level.
- Help design solutions and processes for specific customer needs.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and gain their trust and respect.
- Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience as a Logistics Engineer or comparable experience designing, developing, implementing and executing supply chain solutions.Bachelor's degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Management Science, Computer Science or other quantitative discipline required. Masters degree preferred.Strong understanding of transportation, supply chain and logistics concepts.Effective written and verbal communication skills with internal and external customers.Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint) as well as Minitab; MS Project and Visio a plus.Ability to effectively use supply chain network modeling and design tools; data analysis and extensive research capability.Excellent analytical / problem-solving capabilities and presentation skills.Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, especially when problems affect solution outcome or project schedule.Customer orientation and team player mindset.Ability to work somewhat independently on a range of unstructured tasks and priorities with limited supervision.Developed time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills.Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential.Willingness to travel as necessary and to work the required schedule and location.Physical Requirements
