Duties
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Complete Student Medical Histories for IEP, 504 Plans
- Administer a coordinated school health program
- Assess the health and safety needs of the school environment in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) guidelines, implementing the Bloodborne Pathogen Control Plan and other interventions as indicated
Implements an accident / injury prevention program to facilitate school safety
Implements a communicable disease prevention and control program in cooperation with local and state public health agencies
- Participate in Child Find programs and health screening programs according to state mandates and guidelines
- Completes annual student screenings, including vision and hearing screening
Assist with preschool screenings conducted three times per year.
Coordinate with local health department to provide access to services by students and families, (i.e. dental mobile, & health department)
- Member of Emergency / Crisis Team
- Ensures compliance of immunization program
Complete state mandated reports for immunizations, communicable diseases and vision and hearing.
Participate in the development of health-related policies and procedures in compliance with state mandates and current health practices
- Implement a variety of classroom education programs for students at multiple grade levels, i.e. hygiene, hand washing, etc.
- Meet with parents and guardians on student health issues and health program concerns.
- Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students and staff including nursing assessment, identifying health problems, making referrals for diagnosis and treatment, recommending educational modifications, providing follow-up and evaluation and maintaining appropriate documentation
- Implement a medication protocol to safely store, administer, document and monitor the effectiveness of medication given at school
- Manage school health records in accordance with Illinois School Student Records Act, providing efficient retrieval of information and other related archival responsibilities
- Make appropriate referrals for suspected abuse / neglect as a mandated reporter
- Maintain health and OHSA supplies and equipment for the district
- Recommend for the health services annual budget and critical needs requests
- Annually compile data on student health concerns and distribute to appropriate staff.
- Conduct education and training of staff on student health needs including new and returning staff.
Ability to
Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the identification, evaluation and placement of students into special education programs.
Writes the health component of the Individual Education Plan.
- Recommends modifications of the school program for students who require accommodations due to a health deficit
- Develops and maintains emergency plans for students who need special nursing interventions during the school day
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
Valid First Aid, CPR and AED certification
Illinois PEL with School Nurse Endorsement, Preferred
Vision and Hearing Certificate (IDPH) Preferred
Salary / Benefits
$60,000-$65,000
