Overview
Position : Presales Principal Architect - Cloud at Heartland Business Systems
The Principal Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for defining and driving architectural strategy that aligns technical solutions with customer outcomes across HBS's diverse customer base. This role balances presales leadership, technical enablement, and project delivery oversight to create scalable, customer outcomes with a sales-driven focus. As a regional technical overlay, the Principal Architect partners with sales to develop tailored solution designs and proposals, mentor engineers, and ensure delivery excellence on complex projects.
Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement & Presales : lead presales efforts as a technical overlay; collaborate with sales to create solution designs, roadmaps, and proposals; deliver technical presentations, demos, and workshops; mentor account teams on technical strategy; partner with vendors to drive solution adoption; provide rapid BOMs and scoping documents.
- Project Leadership & Execution : serve as Project Lead Engineer on large-scale projects; provide leadership to Engineering teams; communicate timelines and progress with stakeholders.
- Standards Development & Innovation : develop scalable architectures, presales tools, and repeatable designs; maintain technical playbooks and enablement materials; contribute to engineering enablement with standards and tooling.
- Communication & Collaboration : work with regional practices to align utilization and growth goals; guide Field Engineering for effective delivery and customer outcomes.
- Professional Development & Expertise : maintain industry / vendor certifications; pursue growth aligned to the engineering skills matrix; grow sales acumen through targeted training.
- Other Duties : mentor engineers, manage vendor relationships, deliver presales workshops and training, close skills gaps, and coordinate with Sales on technical strategy and cross-functional awareness.
- Time Allocation & Accountability : maintain a minimum of 400 billable hours per fiscal year (prorated); align to regional utilization and growth targets; drive services revenue in partnership with Sales; contribute to a 1.6x revenue multiplier for the architecture team across regions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Experience : 5+ years in a technical field.Preferred Experience : 8+ years in a technical field; 6+ years as a consultant; 4+ years developing customer solutions aligned to business goals.Required Skills, Education and Certifications : Bachelor's degree or equivalent; at least one expert-level certification or three professional-level certifications if no expert-level offering exists; certifications must be from a preferred or supported vendor; experience designing and implementing complex technology solutions; two different cloud certifications (one expert / one associate or equivalent) from Azure, AWS, or GCP.Preferred Skills : advanced expertise in networking, systems, software, and cloud practices; certifications across networking, security, data center, cloud architecture, systems and storage, IAM, and DevOps tooling; hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud; programming / scripting for automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell).Equal Opportunity
