Job description

Position Summary

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range : $66,560 - $85,000

The Campus Investigator and Training Coordinator reports to the Title IX Coordinator and Executive Director of Human Resources. The investigator and training coordinator is responsible for conducting internal investigations on behalf of the University concerning alleged violations of University policy, discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, Title IX violations, as well as other employee relations and student conduct matters. The investigator will use appropriate and acceptable standards / methods of investigation practices to complete a thorough investigation, compile relevant documents, formulate the official investigation report, and provide information to the responsible administrator. Under the direction and supervision of the Title IX Coordinator and the Executive Director of HR, the investigator and training coordinator is responsible for managing, , developing, coordinating, and conducting student and employee training programs related to Title IX and Human Resources. This position includes communicating with supervisors to identify training needs and to map out training plans for the university.

  • Represent the University and manage a professional and active relationship with various University team members and outside community representatives.
  • Duties

  • Investigations :
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and privacy on all office and investigation proceedings.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate policies, procedures, and practices designed to comply with federal and state legislation, regulation, and case law.
  • Work collaboratively with the Title IX Coordinator, Executive Director of Human Resources, Chief Conduct officer, key partners in the University including but not limited to Human Resources, Campus Life, Campus Safety, appropriate administrative offices, and the University’s general counsel to investigate and resolve complaints of university policy violations.
  • Act as a neutral party through all aspects of an investigation to ensure an unbiased, fair and neutral process for all parties involved.
  • Work closely with the appropriate responsible administrator to determine investigation strategies for assigned cases.
  • Establish timely communications with all parties involved in the matter.
  • Gather, organize and analyze complaint information, pertinent data, records and other evidence; identify relevant & irrelevant information, determine facts, logically come to conclusions / preliminary outcomes, as appropriate under various university policies, to implement appropriate policies / procedures and support written investigation reports.
  • Create comprehensive, professional, unbiased written reports documenting steps taken in the investigation, documentation of relevant / irrelevant evidence, credibility assessments, preliminary findings, findings, for review by involved parties and other stakeholders at the conclusion of the investigation as appropriate under university policies.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, reports, and case files relating to investigations using the university database.
  • Manage administrative and logistical tasks related to investigations and hearing processes.
  • Keep apprised of new developments and best practices in the fields of investigations and other relevant federal and state legislation and regulations.
  • Assist with data collection, preparation and generation of reports and recommendations of revisions to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Training :
  • Attend and or deliver presentations, training and other educational programing to faculty, staff, student and administrative populations on a variety of topics related to harassment, discrimination, and Title IX.
  • Maintain updated curriculum databases and training records.
  • Ensure training is distributed timely, document and track completion.
  • Design, prepare and order training materials.
  • Conduct training needs assessment and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.
  • Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills.
  • Assist in coordinating staff development initiatives.
  • Research and recommend new training materials and methods.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements : Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (or related field), or Paralegal certificate.
  • Experience in higher education highly desired.
  • Four years of job-related experience in a work setting related to the essential functions such as a Title IX office, student conduct office, employment law firm, human resources department with employee relations experience, or other comparable work experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state civil rights laws and regulations and experience implementing related institutional policies and procedures is preferred.
  • Prior experience conducting Title IX, Title VI and / or Title VII discrimination related investigations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion principals and experience working with diverse populations desired.
  • Possess a high level of cultural competence, overall responsiveness, attention to detail, and the ability to exercise excellent and unbiased judgment and reasoning, free from any conflict of interest.
  • Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving, interviewing or investigation.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and experience analyzing information directly or under supervision.
  • Evaluate and synthesize data, and prepare concise, logical reports.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills, the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for needs of individuals of varying backgrounds.

    Environmental Conditions :

  • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
  • Physical Demands :

  • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to : remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets / office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators / copy machines / printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
  • The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
