Berger Recycling is currently looking for a hard-working self-starter who is punctual, professional, and has a positive attitude .
This individual must display patience and problem-solving skills. As a mechanic at a recycling facility the work is rarely repetitive since new and unique challenges arise daily.
Berger Recycling is located on the Pawtucket / Central Falls city line. We are easy to get to; only a few turns off route 95.
Berger Recycling can be very flexible and provide leniency in certain aspects to accommodate potential employees' life-styles but in return we expect a " can-do" attitude.
The ability to maintain responsibilities while unsupervised is a strict requirement.
Duties
- Repairing and maintaining Bobcat loaders, forklifts, and medium and heavy-duty over-the-road trucks and trailers.
- Assist with general maintenance of plant stationary equipment, such as automatic horizontal balers and hydraulic shears.
- General shopkeeping such as parts organization and inventory, and maintaining shop tooling.
- Assist Head Mechanic with significant repair projects as needed.
Requirements
- Mechanical experience, particularly with propane or diesel engines.
- Electrical troubleshooting, with batteries & alternators, automotive relays, and fuses.
- Tooling : the Assistant Mechanic must be able to furnish their own tools.
- Valid Driver’s License : parts fetching is part of the job.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Outdoor work is required. The Assistant Mechanic should expect to work in most weather, both hot and cold.
Preferred (but optional) skills :
- Hydraulic experience, including pumps and actuators, and hose making.
- Welding and fabrication experience. Heavy equipment involves a significant amount of welding, and prior experience is a great perk.
- Commercial Driver’s License, Class A.
- PLC and industrial automation experience.
PPE Requirements
All plant employees, including those in the repair department, are required to wear safety-toe work boots at all times on property.
Sneakers are not sufficient. Scrapyards are dangerous places to work, and we take the safety of our personnel seriously.
Employees will also be required to wear company-furnished hard hats and safety glasses while in the plant, and will also be provided with gloves for necessary tasks.
