Nursing Assistant Opportunity At Fairview

Ridges Hospital is looking for a passionate and hardworking Nursing Assistant to join our Orthopedic and Spine unit! Located in Burnsville, just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, MN, near the 35 E and 35 W conjunctions. This unit is a 26 bed that cares for adult orthopedics, spine, total joint replacements, general surgery, post-surgical recovery, and medical patients. This position is a .8 FTE, working 64 hours per 2 week pay period. This position works 8-hour shifts, every other weekend rotation (Fri, Sat, Sun), and on the evening (3pm-11 : 30pm) shift.

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse / caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager / charge nurse. Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include :

  • Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding
  • Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments / creams
  • Oral hygiene
  • Specimen collection / testing
  • Position / ambulating
  • Changing linens
  • Promptly answers call lights
  • Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition
  • Accurately takes and records weights, input / output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation
  • Places patient on / off monitors or equipment
  • Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients
  • Orients patient and their family to the environment
  • Assures the patient's belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer, and discharge
  • Transports patients, equipment, specimen, and supplies
  • Assures patients get to appointments on time
  • Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and / or ambulation
  • Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment
  • Orders and stocks supplies
  • Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form
  • Performs other tasks as needed

License / Certification / Registration :

  • Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care, or acute care setting
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required
