Job description

Overview

We are accepting applications on an on-going basis for future consideration for part-time instructors in this discipline at any of our three colleges (Oxnard, Moorpark, and Ventura). Applications submitted to this pool will be kept on file for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters and may be considered if a vacancy becomes available within the academic year. If you have applied to previous pools in this discipline, you will need to apply to this pool to continue to be considered.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor (Non-Contact / Temporary) provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose of facilitating the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives. In accordance with the provisions of Education Code sections 87482.5, Instructors (Non-Contract / Temporary) may be employed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.

The Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) is a public community college district serving residents throughout Ventura County. VCCCD’s three colleges – Moorpark College, Oxnard College, and Ventura College – offer programs for transfer to four-year colleges and universities; career technical training; basic skills instruction; as well as community service, economic development, and continuing education for cultural growth, life enrichment, and skills improvement.

General Duties and Expectations

Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills through assignments and activities in person, online, or distance-mediated settings.

Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other higher education options, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services as appropriate.

Observe and evaluate student performance against course objectives and student learning outcomes; provide timely feedback to inquiries in class, online, or during office hours.

Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes; align with department, college, and district goals.

Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, progress, curriculum, and student learning outcomes; submit data and reports as required.

Evaluate and select instructional materials in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials according to campus procedures to ensure timely delivery.

Revise and update course content in response to new theory, applications, and industry developments; update syllabi and collaborate on measurable student performance indicators.

May participate in curriculum and program development, and provide input on student learning outcomes; attend committees and meetings as applicable; participate in articulation and matriculation activities.

May provide work direction to others and perform related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties are those tasks required to meet the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.

Minimum Qualifications (as stated in the handbook)

All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university. The minimum qualifications include :

Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, OR

Any associate degree and six years of professional experience, OR

Possession of a valid California Community College Teaching Credential appropriate to the discipline, OR

Equivalency as defined by the district for those able to demonstrate equivalent qualifications.

Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree and must be directly related to the teaching assignment. If you have completed your education outside the United States, see the Foreign Transcripts section for additional information.

Equivalency

The district may determine equivalency based on combinations of education and experience. Applicants may complete and submit a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency for review by the District-wide Equivalency Committee. The equivalency review is separate from the recruitment process. Further details are provided in the postings linked in the original materials.

Selection Process

If a vacancy becomes available, pool applications will be reviewed by the hiring department. Complete packets meeting minimum qualifications (or deemed equivalent) will be considered. Qualified candidates will be invited to interview. When completing the application and supplemental questions, outline education, training, and experience in detail; evaluation will be based on this information.

Materials kept in district personnel files will not be considered unless included in the application packet. All required documents must be submitted by the applicant. You may submit a new application once every 24 hours, but it must include all attachments. Only the most recent application will be considered.

Official or unofficial college / university transcripts

Transcripts must show the degree title and conferral date; diplomas are not accepted in lieu of transcripts. If the degree is not yet conferred, provide transcripts indicating the anticipated completion date. An official copy will be required upon hire. Instructors may not start work until official transcripts are received.

Foreign Transcripts

For coursework from foreign institutions not CHEA- or US Department of Education-accredited, include a full evaluation of the foreign transcript with your application materials. See the CHEA and US Department of Education websites for recognized accreditation and approved evaluation agencies. Official foreign transcript evaluation may be required upon hire.

Pay and Salary

Starting salaries for part-time Faculty are based on education and relevant experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range; further advancement is based on longevity and educational growth. See the Explanation of Salary Placement for Part-Time Faculty for details.

Starting Salary

Part-time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,007 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load. Salaries are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers (AFT Local 1828) and the Ventura County Community College District.
