Director - Accounting

What You'll Do

Are you looking for a new, exciting accounting opportunity at Principal? We're looking for a motivated individual to fill a Director role to lead the Financial Controls and Technical Accounting team within Benefits and Protection! In this role, you'll have a variety of responsibilities including :

• Leadership role overseeing the financial controls and technical accounting team
• Lead cross business unit projects and strategic transactions
• Lead sophisticated technical accounting for the business unit
• Will have a key part in improving accounting processes, documentation, and oversight
• Key role in helping improve financial control understanding, documentation, and rigor
• Lead team who will assess accounting and financial control risks and resolve any control gaps identified.
• Ensure implementation and full compliance of control policies across the department
• Extensive coordination with external auditor (EY)
• Exposure to executive leadership (CFO, President, etc.)

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and / or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$137000 - $185000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
