Overview
Under direction and general supervision, performs a wide variety of legal secretarial and administrative support duties for an assigned county department or for staff attorneys; gathers and prepares information; responds to public and staff contacts and concerns; and performs related duties as assigned.

LEGAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Education and Experience
Three (3) years of full-time responsible office and administrative support work, including experience in a position requiring knowledge of legal terminology and procedures and substantial public contact. Additional directly related education and / or experience may be substituted.
LEGAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, SENIOR
Two (2) years of full-time responsible legal office and administrative support work at a level comparable to Legal Administrative Assistant with the County of Lake. Additional directly related education and / or experience may be substituted.

Definition
Under general supervision, performs routine legal secretarial and administrative support duties for an assigned county department or for staff attorneys; gathers and prepares information; responds to public and staff contacts and concerns; and performs related duties as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the entry and first working level in the Legal Administrative Assistant class series. Incumbents perform a limited variety of routine legal, office, and administrative support work. Work assignments require a basic knowledge of legal terminology, legal documents, and legal procedures. This class is distinguished from Legal Administrative Assistant, Senior because incumbents in the latter class perform a broader scope of more complex legal support duties. Incumbents initially employed as a Legal Administrative Assistant may be promoted to Legal Administrative Assistant, Senior upon demonstration of sufficient work skills and knowledge, as well as sustained satisfactory work performance.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direct supervision from assigned supervisory or management staff, depending on the assigned area. Exercises no supervision over staff.

This is the experienced, journey-level classification in the Legal Administrative class series. Incumbents perform a wide variety of legal, office, and administrative support work. Work assignments require substantial knowledge of legal terminology, legal documents, and legal procedures. This class is distinguished from the Legal Administrative Assistant because incumbents in the latter class perform a limited scope of more routine legal support duties.
May provide lead direction, work coordination, and training, as assigned.
