Position : Sustaining Mechanical Engineer

Department : Engineering

Reports to : Engineering Manager

Job Summary : We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our sustaining engineering team. This role focuses on maintaining and improving existing products through continuous engineering support, cost reduction initiatives, and product optimization. The successful candidate will operate with high independence and has the potential to grow into a departmental leadership role.

Key Responsibilities :

Product Sustaining & Maintenance Provide ongoing engineering support for existing product lines to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Identify and resolve product issues through systematic analysis and design modifications. Implement product improvements and cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality standards. Develop product variations and configurations to meet evolving customer requirements. Manage engineering change orders and maintain accurate documentation throughout product lifecycle.

Design & Documentation Create detailed mechanical drawings and models using ERA system for manufacturing and assembly. Develop CAD drawings for new parts and modifications to existing components using advanced drafting techniques. Generate comprehensive technical documentation including specifications, assembly instructions, and manufacturing guidelines. Maintain drawing revision control and ensure all documentation meets company standards and regulatory requirements.

Process Improvement & Compliance Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and integrate into existing workflows and methodologies. Analyze current processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and quality enhancement. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize producibility and reduce costs. Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company quality requirements.

Technical Collaboration Work closely with electrical engineering teams on products requiring electro-mechanical integration. Provide technical support for electronics packaging, thermal management, and system integration challenges. Interface with suppliers and vendors for component selection and qualification. Support cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain.

Required Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design and product development. Proficiency in CAD software with demonstrated experience in creating detailed mechanical drawings and 3D models. Experience with ERA system for drawings and model management. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and design for manufacturability principles.

Essential Competencies : Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision after initial training period. Strong problem-solving skills with systematic approach to issue resolution. Excellent communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to learn established processes and adapt to existing methodologies.

Work Environment : Full-time position requiring both office-based design work and factory floor interaction. Standard business hours with flexibility for project deadlines and cross-functional meetings. Travel may be required for supplier visits or customer support (less than 10%).
