B&F Contractingis seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead all aspects of the companys safety programs across multiple underground utility and civil construction projects.
Job Summary
The Safety Manager leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of B&Fs safety programs across all divisions. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations and fosters a proactive safety culture that protects people, property, and the public. The Safety Manager partners with field leadership, supervisors, and employees to identify and mitigate risks, ensure accountability, and fosters a culture of safety without compromise throughout the company.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
- Oversee job site safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations, including near misses and property damage, to ensure consistency, root cause analysis, timely follow up, and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain required safety documentation, including injury / illness logs, incident reports, training records, and SDS files.
- Oversee workers compensation claims; coordinate with adjusters to ensure timely, fair, and cost-effective claim resolution.
- Manage compliance programs such as Lockout / Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Trenching and Excavation, Electrical Safety, and Respiratory Protection.
- Develop, deliver and oversee safety training programs for new hires, supervisors, and field personnel to ensure compliance and competency across all required topics.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and maintain accurate documentation of all safety-related training.
- Support project teams with risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs); assist in developing site-specific safety plans and permits.
- Monitor and evaluate leading and lagging indicators, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide guidance to managers and supervisors regarding safety policy interpretation, OSHA compliance, and best practices.
- Lead the Safety Committee and promote active employee participation in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support ergonomic assessments, PPE programs, respirator fit testing, and medical monitoring as applicable.
- Manage vendor relationships related to safety training, supplies, and equipment purchases.
- Evaluate subcontractors and vendors for compliance with B&Fs minimum safety standards.
- Collaborate with field leadership to ensure prompt and accurate reporting of all injuries, incidents, and near misses, and support follow-up investigations and corrective actions.
- Drive accountability and engagement at all levels to strengthen a safety-first culture.
- Prepare and present regular reports to management summarizing safety performance, trends, and corrective actions.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience managing safety in construction, utilities, or industrial operations (underground utility experience strongly preferred).Expert knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and related safety regulations.Proven success developing, leading, and auditing safety programs in multi-site field operations.Experience designing and delivering employee safety training, including onboarding and ongoing competency programs.Exceptional communication, leadership, and coaching skills; ability to influence at all levels of the organization.OSHA 500 certification required.Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-up skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and digital safety management systems.Valid drivers license, clean driving record, and ability to travel to job sites throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area and surrounding regions.Bilingual English / Spanish preferred.Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to :
