Parking Enforcement Officer
Under general supervision, enforces City of Detroit parking ordinances in assigned patrol areas.
Examples of duties include : enforcing City of Detroit parking ordinances and regulations, patrolling an assigned area on foot or in a vehicle, operating hand-held computerized devices, placing / removing immobilization devices on / from vehicles, operating camera and video equipment in conjunction with the immobilization of vehicles, operating two-way communications equipment, completing departmental forms and records, responding to the public's questions and referring complex matters to appropriate departmental personnel, testifying in court proceedings as required, participating in automobile auction detail, and participating in departmental citizen assistance programs.
Minimum qualifications include high school graduation or G.E.D.
Shifts for training are as follows : Training Week 1 8am to 4 : 30pm, Training Week 2 8am to 4 : 30pm, Training Week 3 10am to 6 : 30pm, Training Week 4 10am to 6 : 30pm, Training Week 5 1 : 30pm to 10pm, Training Week 6 1 : 30pm to 10pm. Please be advised that there is no shift guarantee. Based on seniority, new hires may begin on the Tuesday through Saturday, 1 : 30pm to 10pm shift. We will expand enforcement to a 7-day operation in the very near future.

Licenses, certifications, and other special requirements include a valid State of Michigan Operator License; will be required to operate City-owned vehicle. Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position.
Physical demands include continuous walking on pavement and concrete, standing and bending for an extended period of time. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 40 pounds. Work environment includes outdoor exposure to conditions which may include fumes, extreme heat and cold, wetness, loud noise, dust, inclement weather, and hazardous chemicals. Some work requires travel to meetings, conferences, and other work sites with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
Evaluation process includes : computerized based test 50%, interview : P / F, evaluation of CBT, training, experience, and personal qualifications : 50%, total of interview and evaluation T.E.P : 50%, additional points may be awarded for veteran points : 0 15 points, Detroit Residency Credit : 15 point, LRD : 07 / 01 / 2024.
