The School of Special Educational Needs : Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN : BE) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic School Psychologist to join their dynamic and motivated team at the Goldfields Engagement Centre, located in Kalgoorlie and supporting schools across the Goldfields Education region.

There is an option to service this location in a fixed term capacity for 12 months from a metropolitan base with a fly in-fly out model.

Part of Statewide Services, the SSEN : BE provides educational support and services for students in public schools with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours.

Services are delivered by multidisciplinary teams in Engagement Centres located in each education region throughout the state, and from Statewide Services in Padbury.

The Midland Learning Academy is also part of SSEN : BE and is a small school model for highly disengaged students.

The SSEN : BE coordinates a continuum of support for schools which may include :

• Professional learning to support school staff with student engagement and behaviour
• Consultative support for schools needing additional assistance with planning for those students with very complex needs
• Direct support for school staff and students as part of a planned intervention

About the role

Psychologists are integral to the work of the SSEN : BE, with professional leadership and support for the team provided by Lead School Psychologists, who also coordinate specialised training relevant to the role.

As a SSEN : BE School Psychologist, you will develop, implement, and evaluate individual interventions for students from Kindergarten to Year 12, and assist schools to maintain safe and supportive learning environments.

You will confidently provide psychological assessment and consultancy services to school and Engagement Centre staff and establish and maintain effective working relationships to improve student behaviour and engagement.

Collaboration with School Psychologists, Lead School Psychologists, and other specialist teams within and external to the Department will be a key feature of the role, to assist with the integration and coordination of relevant student support services.

As the successful applicant, you will have well developed interpersonal and communication skills and experience in the area of student behaviour and engagement.

As this position requires the ability to work independently as a psychologist and is of a more specialist nature, you will ideally possess general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

This role will involve travel between sites within the region, including the potential for overnight stays and travel in light aircraft.

• High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
• Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.
