Job Summary

The City of Fort CollinsStreets Department is looking for a Truck Driver / Laborer to work on ourPatching and Paving Crews.

Our Operators perform work related today-to-day operations and functions of the Streets Departments including minorand major construction of streets and alleys;

snow and ice removal; andcrushing recycling operations. Operators maintain and operate equipment whichmay include front-end loader, bulldozer, skid steer, dump truck, backhoe,tractor, street sweeper, and paving equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES : Thefollowing duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functionsof this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Operates and maintains equipment such astractor, small front-end loader, sweeper, dump truck, or plow truck.
  • May operate heavy equipment.
  • May patch broken or eroded pavement; remove debris fromstreets; perform snow removal.
  • May input daily work data into a computer.
  • May perform general building maintenance.
  • May train other operators or hourly employees when needed.

SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES :

This position isnot responsible for the daily supervision of regular City employees.

  • Ability to operate a variety of light to heavy sized equipmentand / or vehicles.
  • Knowledge of general vehicle and equipment maintenance andrepair.
  • Ability to follow and enforce City safety regulations.

EDUCATION andEXPERIENCE :

High schooldiploma or GED; one to two years related experience; or equivalent combinationof education and experience.Previous truck driving experience is highlydesirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

Ability to readand interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports andcorrespondence.

REASONING ABILITY :

Ability to applycommon sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written,oral, or diagram form.

CurrentCommercial Driver's License

While performingthe duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanicalparts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
