Job Title : RN ICU Position Summary
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision and coordination of patient-centered care. The RN utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to achieve desired patient outcomes. The RN provides direct patient care within the scope of practice, participates in patient and family teaching, and works cooperatively with nursing, ancillary, and interdisciplinary team members. The RN maintains standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting and must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service to all assigned patients.
Key Responsibilities
Change dressings, insert catheters, start IVs, and perform other nursing procedures within scope.
Accurately obtain and record assessments, care delivery, medication administration, treatments, and patient responses in the electronic medical record.
Adjust and operate specialized medical equipment and interpret clinical measurements.
Monitor patients vital signs, assess clinical status, and report abnormal findings promptly.
Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, treatments, and post-care needs.
Maintain and update patient files, charts, and health records accurately.
Collect current symptoms, obtain detailed patient history, and collaborate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care plans.
Organize and plan patient care, follow protocols, administer medications accurately, and support education related to care and recovery.
Perform routine equipment checks, including monitors, oxygen cylinders, and emergency equipment.
Prepare and administer medications in accordance with nursing practice standards and facility policy.
Participate in care coordination, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial or spiritual support needs.
Monitor patients using appropriate equipment as ordered.
Provide discharge instructions and follow-up care education.
Utilize SBAR for clinical communication and maintain compliance with HIPAA.
Apply the nursing process (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation) in all aspects of care.
Respond rapidly and appropriately to changes in patient condition or emergencies.
Stabilize patients in collaboration with medical staff, EMS, and interdisciplinary team members.
May float to other clinical areas within scope as assigned.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Complete assigned monthly, annual, and mandatory training.
Perform additional clinical duties within scope as assigned.
ICU-Specific Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients throughout their ICU stay.
Deliver regular updates to physicians, patients, and families.
Manage ventilators and artificial airways.
Respond to medical emergencies and acute changes in condition.
Qualifications (Legally Required)
Current and valid California RN License .
Current BLS (AHA) certification.
Current ACLS (AHA) certification.
Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in an acute care hospital.
Experience in the specialty area applied for preferred.
Shift Details
12-hour shifts; scheduling based on facility needs.
