The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Patient Care Coordinator to work with the student clinics and graduate clinics to facilitate patient care.

The Patient Care Coordinator is a supportive position that is part of the patient care team that jointly cares for patients who are waiting for treatment, in treatment, and post treatment as well as supports student providers.

The Patient Care Coordinator is an important part of the health care delivery system ensuring an optimal healthcare experience for our dental patients.

The Patient Care Coordinator utilizes their dental hygiene training and experience working within a dental practice to better understand and facilitate the interdisciplinary process of each patient’s oral health care needs.

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio.

The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Patient Care Coordinator will provide clinic operational support to assure effective and efficient provision of patient care.

Coordinate student clinic patient care with regard to patient management and monitor quality care outcomes. Manage / resolve complex patient grievances and enhance the patient experience.

Enhance chair utilization and assist with student accountability. Serve as liaison between patients, students, staff, and faculty.

Contribute to or lead development, implementation, and compliance of clinic operating procedures and protocols. Solve complex problems and exercise clinical judgement-based decisions while working independently and with minimal guidance.

Serve on college committees and workgroups.

The ideal candidate is able to work under pressure in a busy clinical environment where interruptions are frequent and assigned responsibilities are varied.

Understand a patient treatment plan, care sequencing, and how to effectively manage both patient and provider needs. Effectively interact with patients, faculty, students, and staff, in addition to individuals outside the college community (e.

g., families, caregivers, referring providers, etc.), in positive manner, to achieve patient satisfaction. Work both autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team environment;

exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and sound judgment with an ability to solve problems and make decisions.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.

Candidate must be able to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include lifting of supplies and equipment as well as bending, standing, and walking.

The position also requires sitting for extended periods of time, visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for working with computer keyboards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to significant work pace / pressure.

Schedule :

Regular office hours are Monday-Friday from 7 : 30AM-4 : 30PM; may be asked to work additional hours as needed to support patient care.

Qualifications :

Required : Qualified candidates must have two years of practice experience and meet one of two requirements listed below :

1. Graduated from a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or a related field, maintain an active dental hygiene license; or

2. A dental degree from either a CODA or non-CODA accredited dental school.

Desired :

More than four years of experience preferred. Advanced degree may be desired.
