At HDR, our employee-owners are fully engaged in creating a welcoming environment where each of us is valued and respected, a place where everyone is empowered to bring their authentic selves and novel ideas to work every day. Watch Our Story:

Each and every role throughout our organization makes a difference in our ability to change the world for the better. Read further to learn how you could help make great things possible not only in your community, but around the world.

We believe architecture is more than designing buildings, it’s about providing solutions to societal challenges and creating stronger, more vibrant communities. As part of our Architecture practice at HDR, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of spaces and experiences that advance community well-being around the world. From healing environments and learning spaces to research labs and civic landmarks and infrastructure, your work will directly influence how individuals experience the world around them. We bring together architects, planners, designers, and technical experts to solve complex design challenges with creativity, curiosity, and collaboration. From championing design excellence with an emphasis on resilience and sustainability to pioneering innovative building technologies, your contributions will leave a lasting impact on the built environment. This isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to drive meaningful change and help define the future of our communities.

We are looking for a creative, self-motivated, and conscientious team player with the ability to communicate design and planning concepts both graphically and verbally. This position requires a versatile entry-level professional who is eager to learn and values the opportunity for professional development through collaboration on multi-disciplinary teams. Growth and advancement opportunities will be dependent on the successful candidate’s ability to demonstrate skills and assume responsibility.

In the role of Landscape Designer, we'll count on you to:

  • Work under the direction of a registered Landscape Architect to assist in development of projects from concept design to construction documentation. Typical project types range from parks, plazas and streetscapes to healthcare, education, science and technology campuses.

  • Understand that assignments have specified objectives and require investigation of many variables, including site analysis, building operation, vehicular and pedestrian traffic, site grading and storm drainage

  • Create conceptual and detailed drawings using 2D and 3D digital illustration tools and free-hand drawing.

  • Provide production support during concept and schematic design, design development, and construction document phases of projects

  • Collaborate with architects, planners, engineers and other land-based disciplines to develop and advance design thinking, concepts in project work and studio culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, advanced 3D modeling, computational design and rendering with programs such as Grasshopper, Lumion, Enscape

  • Internships or prior work experience as landscape designer

  • Hand sketching and drawing skills

  • Strong design sensibility: creativity and curiosity, clear visual communication, strong design rigor, including iterative concept exploration through multiple platforms

  • Strong interest in sustainable / regenerative design

  • Experience with a full range of design phases, including site analysis, site planning, urban design, conceptual development and construction documentation

  • Understanding of technical aspects of landscape architecture and associated terminology including construction materials and processes, grading and drainage, plant material and planting design

#LI-EV1

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or Civil Engineering
  • AutoCAD, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel experience
  • Photoshop a plus
  • Ability to prepare site plans and understand the principles of grading and drainage
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

What We Believe
HDR is our company. Together, we build on each other's life experiences and perspectives to make great things possible every day. This shapes our collaborative culture, encourages organizational trust and connects us closer to the clients and communities we serve.

Our eight Employee Network Groups (Asian Pacific, Black, Hispanic/Latino(a), LGBTQ+, People with Disabilities, Veterans, Women, Young Professionals) help create a sense of belonging and foster a supportive environment where everyone is empowered to engage and contribute.
