About the Role

The Preschool Teacher provides effective instructional strategies that are developmentally appropriate for 3-5 year old's. Under the Center Director / Assistant Director / Site Coordinator, the role involves creating a nurturing classroom environment and ensuring that curriculum and assessments are aligned with learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Models language, interactions, positive behavior and guidance strategies to ensure high quality teaching and learning.
  • Plans and implements a curriculum that is responsive to children's individual needs, interests and developmental levels, while fostering academic readiness.
  • Arranges classroom in well-defined learning centers that are clearly labeled, clutter-free, reflect the children's interests, encourage independent use and are updated to reflect the current curriculum theme.
  • Utilizes materials in a creative manner, bringing in resources to enhance the curriculum.
  • Organizes own time and resources to ensure all materials are ready so the curriculum / lesson plan is implemented appropriately and according to plan.
  • Establishes and maintains a clean, safe and effective environment by following all health and safety rules for the center, in conjunction with state, federal, NAEYC and One Hope United's health and safety guidelines.
  • Appropriately cares for equipment so the equipment is safe, clean and accessible to children.
  • Always supervises children by sight and sound.
  • Responsible for weekly completion of GOLD observations and quarterly checkpoints which are objective, meaningful and used to drive future lesson planning. Areas of focus include physical, cognitive, social-emotional, language, literacy, and math.
  • Schedules and conducts parent-teacher conferences at least twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
  • Communicates regularly with families in order to develop effective partnerships.
  • Provides opportunities for families to volunteer and participate in classroom activities.
  • Completes all required paperwork so that paperwork is well-written, thorough and completed in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and a commitment to follow One Hope United's Culture of Respect, in conjunction with the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • Actively participates in meetings and assists in planning center-wide activities.
  • Completes a minimum of 20 / 30 hours of professional development training hours annually, through participation in staff meetings, in-service days, workshops and conferences.
  • Maintain a log of professional development training hours in Gateways.

Qualifications

  • MUST HAVE : 60 credit hours enough for an associate degree and 6 credits in ECE.
  • Required Skills

  • Proficient computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment and adaptive skills to expand software application skills as necessary.
  • Ability to work as part of a professional team and effectively supervise staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks well.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to improve operational strategy.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality with public and parents.
  • Ability to reflect on one's professional growth and development and create goals for personal improvement.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The job requires standing for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, and running. The employee must be able to walk, squat / kneel, sit on floor, see, hear, and speak with children to ensure children's health and safety. The employee is occasionally required to lift items up to 50 pounds. The employee works in a child development center with noise levels that range from moderate to high.
