POLICE OFFICER I
Minimum Qualifications :
Education and Experience : Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification. One year of law enforcement experience, which included patrol experience as a Police Officer or Sheriff's Deputy enforcing state laws and traffic violations by foot and vehicle. You must submit a copy of your POST certificate with your application in order to be considered. Late submissions will not be accepted. Do not use "see resume" statements on application. Your application must be completed in its entirety describing your experience in order to be considered. (Part-time experience will be pro-rated)
Substitutions : College or University coursework in Criminal Justice or related from an accredited institution may substitute for the law enforcement experience on a year-for-year basis. However, there is no substitution for the POST certification listed. (YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION BY THE CLOSING DATE IF YOU ARE APPLYING USING THIS SUBSTITUTION). Necessary Special Requirement : Must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Colorado Driver License and no Felony convictions; domestic violence convictions; acquired more than seven points in the last year and / or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver's license; alcohol / drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol / drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years. You may need to submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check and a Motor Vehicle Driving Record check.
Conditions of Employment : Completion of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) within one year of appointment and completion of Leadership Training within one year of appointment. This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It also requires seizing, holding, controlling, and / or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary. Disqualifiers include terminated for cause, resigned / retired in lieu of termination, resigned / retired while under investigation, resigned / retired while under disciplinary action, credibility report with POST, and Brady listed.
