JOB SUMMARY :

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 275 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

CSIS seeks a full-time intern to support the Defense and Security Department and the Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy. This program focuses on issues related to the changing nature of war, U.S.-China military competition, and U.S. defense planning. This intern will conduct research to support a CSIS wargame on a future war over Taiwan and assist with the physical production of the wargame. The intern will also provide administrative support for public and private events hosted by the Defense and Security Department on the changing character of war. Interns should be highly motivated, a focused problem-solver, and able to navigate in a fast-paced working environment.

Start date will be in early September 2025 and last through the middle of December 2025. The hired candidate will work in-person and for up to 35 hours a week. The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($18.00 / hour for current undergraduate hires, $19.00 / hour for hires with a bachelor's degree, and $20.00 / hour for hires with a master's degree).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Supporting high-level meetings and public events including prepping materials, set-up, event registration, and more;
• Contributing to design and facilitation of wargames and exercises on U.S.-China conflicts;
• Spot and background research on the Ukraine War, Israel-Hamas War, and Chinese nuclear development;
• Independent long-term research projects;
• Administrative support to program; and
• Other administrative tasks as necessary.
