Overview
Unit Coordinator (RN Supervisor) – Adult Medical Unit, Full-time 40 hours, Nights at Bronson Methodist Kalamazoo.
Under general supervision, the unit coordinator functions as leader and clinical liaison with staff, physicians and management to provide continuity of leadership and high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model, mentor, coach, and resource for staff; maintain unit standards and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Assist managers with attracting, developing, maintaining, and retaining qualified staff; participate in hiring, orientation, performance evaluation, problem solving, employee counseling, staffing, payroll, and budget processes as appropriate.
- Coordinate day-to-day unit operations, including patient placements and staff assignments; manage department staffing to meet needs and budget targets.
- Provide internal and external customer contact; maintain a safe environment of care and ensure quality standards and customer service are met.
- Act as clinical expert resource, guide staff, and supervise personnel accountable to the nurse manager; provide ongoing performance feedback and development plans.
- Facilitate staff attendance at organizational committees and meetings; support shared governance and unit meetings.
- Support recruitment, selection, and retention efforts; participate in the interview and hiring processes as needed.
- Ensure compliance with guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards; monitor and evaluate quality of care and conduct audits as required.
- Coordinate scheduling, attendance, PTO approvals, and staffing adjustments in response to volume changes and coverage needs.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory standards and unit-specific guidelines; serve as a first responder for clinical and service recovery issues.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing preferred.Two years of clinical experience required; previous management or leadership experience preferred.Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.Advanced nursing certification preferred; department-specific requirements (e.g., PALS, BLS, ACLS) as applicable.Strong leadership, organization, communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills.Proficiency with computer software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis capabilities.Ability to speak and write English fluently; interpretation of regulatory standards and impact on operations.Location, Schedule and Compensation
