Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a busy Emergency Department position at a Level II Trauma Center requiring a SD or compact RN license and advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Emergency Department of a regional hospital with 33-bed main ED and additional care areas
  • Serve a diverse patient population from neonates to geriatrics, including minor to critical cases
  • High-acuity trauma, cardiac, stroke, and behavioral health cases, plus pediatric intensive care responsibilities
  • RN to patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 in the ED
  • Variable 12-hour shifts with a range of start times including days and nights, but will not mix both within the same week
  • Floating may occur to Med / Surg, PCU, or ICU as a task nurse only
  • Uses Epic for charting, along with Omnicell and Alaris equipment
  • No on-call required, and holiday coverage only if needed
  • RNs are expected to participate in sexual assault evidence collection in rotation with permanent staff
  • Strong critical thinking, ESI triage assessment, and prioritization skills are essential
  • Full support team includes ED techs, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacy techs, radiology staff, and security on the unit
  • 8-hour facility orientation and 4-hour ED-specific education provided, with additional unit shifts as part of onboarding
  • Time off requests require manager approval; no requests will be considered during the first 3 weeks of August annually
  • Navy scrubs required for this unit

  • Requirements

  • Active SD or compact RN license required
  • Completion of an approved nursing education program
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required; CPI, MAB, or MOAB preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years recent ED experience, excluding travel assignments, is most preferred
  • 1.5 years recent ED experience (excluding travel) with 2 additional years outside the ED may be considered with management approval
  • Experience with trauma, cardiac, stroke, and pediatric patients required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Must live more than 100 miles from any Monument facility
  • First-time travelers will not be considered
  • Permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
