The Wisconsin School for the Blind and Visually Impaired within the Division for Learning Support is seeking applicants for a Physical Therapist position. This position works in a small school setting with great student to staff ratio and considerable collaboration with colleagues. Current staff love meeting students' individual needs to optimize independence and empower students.

Position Summary

This position, under the direction and supervision of the Wisconsin School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Center Director, is responsible for organizing, implementing, and providing Physical Therapy programs and services for special education students and providing physical therapy as outlined in laws and policies. This position participates in students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) team and Re-evaluation team meetings and identifies Physical Therapy as a needed resource for students. This position promotes motor development and the student's participation in everyday routines and activities that are a part of their educational program. The PT designs and performs therapeutic interventions, including compensation, remediation, and prevention strategies and adaptations, focusing on functional mobility and safe, efficient access and participation in educational, recreational, vocational and community activities and routines in natural learning environments. This position ensures a free and appropriate education for students with disabilities to prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living.

Salary Information

Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $41.82-$48.00 per hour (approximately $76,547 - $87,859 per year). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. This position is in pay schedule 11, range 02. A one-year probationary period will be required.

This position offers excellent benefits . The State of Wisconsin is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program .

Job Details

A TB screen will be required prior to start.

This is a full-time, school year position (88% full time equivalency).

This position involves limited in-state travel (1-2 times per year) to attend day or overnight conferences.

The position is headquartered at 1700 West State Street in Janesville, WI. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee's headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.).

A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Qualifications

A minimally qualified applicant must have licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Well-qualified applicants will also have :

  • Licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
  • PT experience working with children who are blind and / or have low vision
  • PT experience working with children in a school setting
  • Experience writing and implementing / reporting on Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals
  • Experience consulting with and training staff to work with students regarding PT-related needs.
