The Annsley Frazier Thornton School of Education at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky invites applications for a 9-month, on-site, tenure-track position (rank at Assistant or Associate level based on qualifications) with a start date of August 16th, 2024.

Applications accepted until the position is filled with a priority deadline of March 29th, 2024.

Position responsibilities include teaching in-person and online courses that include K-12 special education methods in our undergraduate and master's initial certification programs, along with courses focused on research methods in our advanced and doctoral programs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent in teaching, research agenda that involves work in special education and / or teacher preparation, interest in securing external funding to support program and research initiatives, and interest in mentoring doctoral candidates.

Our new colleague will also demonstrate dedication to community engagement / partnerships, participation in all school accreditation activities and academic advising, mentorship of doctoral and master's students, and service to candidate's professional field, university, and community.

To qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor level, candidates must currently hold or have held that rank at a comparable institution.

The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching and / or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Requirements :

  • An earned doctorate in Special Education from a regionally and nationally accredited university; ABD candidates must hold an earned doctorate at time of hire
  • A minimum of three years P-12 teaching experience as a certified special educator
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching with demonstrated understanding of Special Education research and practices for teacher preparation
  • Evidence of / potential for excellence in scholarly productivity
  • Experience working with diverse groups and using culturally relevant and / or social justice principles in teaching

Preferred Qualifications include the following :

  • Potential for successful collaboration with school districts (e.g. community engagement and / or conducting professional development for in-service teachers)
  • Interest in applying for external funding
  • Experience working with learners with disabilities
  • Demonstrated research agenda related to Special Education or a closely related area
  • Experience and / or interest in serving on / chairing doctoral committees
