Lead Property Accountant
Overview
The Lead Property Accountant is responsible for managing and supporting a team of junior and staff accountants in the preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements for assigned properties and associations. This position serves as the direct supervisor for junior accountants and ensures that all financial deliverables meet organizational standards of quality and compliance.
This role requires a proactive, service-oriented professional who collaborates effectively across departments and provides outstanding support to internal teams, property managers, and external stakeholders such as association boards and treasurers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Oversight
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of property accountants to ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly financial reporting.
- Review and approve financial statements prior to distribution, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.
- Promote a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement within the accounting team.
- Provide guidance and solutions for escalated accounting issues in partnership with the Director of Financial Reporting.
- Assist in implementing new software tools, process improvements, and departmental initiatives that enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
Operational Responsibilities
Oversee the preparation of monthly property and association financial reporting packages in accordance with internal deadlines.Conduct periodic on-site visits to address and resolve property-level accounting or reporting issues.Build strong relationships with property management and operational teams to ensure financial data accuracy and understanding.Serve as the main point of contact for association boards and treasurers regarding financial statements and accounting inquiries.Collaborate with leadership to support department and organizational goals.Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly manage junior accountants, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development.Oversee daily workflow, assign priorities, and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.Foster employee growth through coaching, feedback, and career development opportunities.________________________________________
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field required.Minimum of 3 years of experience in a property accounting leadership or supervisory role.Prior experience in property management accounting, association accounting, or fund accounting strongly preferred.Demonstrated success in leading accounting teams and delivering accurate financial reporting.Skills and Abilities
Strong financial acumen with a deep understanding of GAAP and property-level accounting principles.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; familiarity with accounting or property management software preferred.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and accountability.High degree of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.Bilingual proficiency is a plus.________________________________________
Physical and Work Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods and perform work using standard office equipment.Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.May require travel to property or association locations as needed.Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends during financial close or project deadlines.________________________________________
