A Finish Superintendent will focus on developing leadership, communication, service, coaching, organization, quality management, safety, and follow-up skills.

Informal and formal training will be used as a resource to assist in developing and executing each of these skills sets.

Location : East Valley

Proficient : Minimum of six months of consistent performance achieving all targeted criteria

Quality Management Tools : Use data to investigate and then verify to prove suspected root causes and substantiate the problem statement.

Example : What is causing large crack to appear at same place on 1217 model home? Investigate concrete footing size, slab type, framing - lumber size, strap location, etc.

Goal : Avoid having the crack reappear.

A Finish Superintendent must be proficient in this area within six to nine months. A Finish Superintendent will be proficient in this area within a maximum of 12 months.

Schedule using Build Pro / Supply Pro proficiently for trade dates and follow-up on tasks which are scheduled. Must walk each home daily - every home, every room, every day.

Re-schedule trades if home is not ready.

  • Use Outlook to schedule appointments and meetings. Must keep your Outlook calendar up-to-date, as well as check your e-mail daily.
  • Know how to plan, organize, and prioritize responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.
  • Work on communication skills with customers, trades, and internal team members. Implement the Shea Communication Standards.
  • Begin developing a quality management mindset. Focus on quality standards and root cause analysis of rework.
  • Learn how to identify and address safety issues found in the community.
  • Perform two safety audits per week using the safety audit form on your iPad.
  • Follow the guidelines of Shea field dress code.
  • Understand and implement the Shea culture in your job responsibilities. Incorporate the Shea Basics (signed copy received on day one).
  • Understand and apply the Shea Homes Vision, Purpose, and Core Values in all areas of your job.
  • Apply the principles learned in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
  • Become proficient in preparing the home for Customer Walk-Thru and Delivery of Home to our customers. Use Quality Checklists in the back end of the home schedule.
  • Complete Customer Walk-Thru / Delivery paperwork correctly. Attend all QA Hard Skills classes.
  • Follow scripting guidelines in communication to our customers.
  • Attend monthly community Welcome meeting. Or, if done one on one, participate in at least one per month with your Project Superintendent.
  • Attend monthly Construction Team meeting.
  • Attend monthly Sales / Construction On-site meeting.
  • Obtain QPR 7 Certification.
  • Attend comprehensive dust control training.
  • Become proficient in use of iPad. Meet our buyers at each Pre-Drywall Orientation with the Project Superintendent to promote customer contacts and relationships with our buyers.
  • Meet or exceed individual and community goals related to your goal planning.

  • Frequently required to work in both a field (outdoor) and office (indoor) environment.
  • Required to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Frequently required to stand, sit, squat, kneel, and occasionally crawl.
  • Required to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Required to walk one plus miles per day on uneven ground.
  • Will be exposed to weather such as heat, cold, rain, etc.
  • Noise level can be unusually loud.
  • May need to carry ladders and warranty tile up to 60 pounds for 100 feet.
