DESCRIPTION
Under the direct supervision of the Dental Program Manager, and in collaboration with the Dental Director, the Lead Registered Dental Assistant will assist the Dentist in the provision of dental services to the patients, both front and back office. This job description identifies the major responsibilities of this position. The Lead Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for the development of the other Dental Assistants. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Chair side assistant to dentist and for chair side procedures, under supervision of dentist and / or dental director. Assisting with and helping to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery.
- Asks about patient Medical History, takes blood pressure, prepares and develops patient x-rays; labeling of x-rays.
- Provides patient education and instruction (Hygiene Instructions, Post Op instructions, Self-Management Goals, etc.) as directed by the provider.
- Monitors patient charts under supervision of the provider. Charts documentation as instructed by the provider.
- Assists in the administration of nitrous oxide when used for analgesia or sedation.
- Takes impressions for diagnostic and opposing models including pouring and care of laboratory impressions.
- Completes lab RX as instructed by provider.
- Applies non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents.
- Removes post extraction and periodontal dressings.
- Places and removes elastic orthodontic separators, holds anterior matrices, removes sutures.
- Applies topical fluoride after scaling and polish, places and removes rubber dams, paces wedge and removes matrices.
- Places Fit and Fissure Sealant
- Polishes coronal Surfaces of teeth.
- Sterilizes all instruments and chair side supplies.
- Performs daily set up and shut down of dental delivery system.
- Consistently adheres to and / or exceeds SPLG's communication guidelines and expectations with patients, peers, and supervisors.
- Greets every patient with a verbal greeting, eye contact and a smile. Communicates effectively by using welcoming words, proper tone of voice, appropriate body language, eye contact and smiling inpatient interactions. Listens skillfully and displays a willingness and ability to acknowledge patient needs, expectations and values through the use of reflective listening and empathy conveyance. Responds to patient needs in ways that are helpful and beyond expectation.
- Helps ensure proper R / DA coverage for dental Clinics.
- Responsible for the ongoing and timely maintenance schedule of dental equipment, including but not limited to : The processor, autoclave, compressor, evacuation system, and laboratory equipment.
- Responsible for the maintenance of emergency kits and first aid supplies ensuring that inventory is current and there are no expired supplies. Maintains monthly logs.
- Reviews all lab slips for accuracy before sending the case to the lab for processing; ensures that all labs have been delivered to the clinic before the patient is scheduled.
- Responsible for inventory control; monitors supplies and ordering. Reviews purchase orders toensure staff is consistent with ordering according to the organization formulary.
- Identifies, reports and follows up as necessary on any maintenance of dental equipment. Works with Facility Department to ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
- Monitors patient flow and takes necessary actions in the day-to-day management of patient flow. Works with both staff and patients to ensure efficient patient flow according to the schedule demands and walk-ins.
- Ensures that the staff is following OSHA regulations and safety requirements. Including HIPAA guidelines and takes corrective action with the support of management if necessary.
- Assists with monitoring and managing dosimeter badges.
- Supports the dental director, or designee, with the review and approval of the Medi-Cal major procedures.
- Works at least one Saturday per month.
- Approves R / DA timesheets.
- Responsible for confirming that back-office workflow logs are completed by staff (Referrals, Spore testing, etc.).
- Serves as the primary contact person for EDR Systems staff pertaining to the EDR.
- Performs other front and / or back office duties as deemed necessary.
- Participates in training, supervision and evaluation of other dental assistants.
- Attends, participates, and presents in staff meetings.
- May participate in offsite clinic duties, including setup and breakdown and perform screenings.
- Conducts regular site visits to additional clinic locations for monitoring and oversight.
- Provides oral health education and promotes Dental Department Services to the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Licensed as a Registered Dental Assistant by the Dental Board of California.High school diploma or GED.Knowledge of the principles of microbiology, first aid, patient hygiene, and sterilization techniques.Knowledge and experience working with dental patients and dental equipment and of dental / medicalterminology in Spanish and English.Knowledge of both front and back office dental procedures.Bilingual English / Spanish.CPR CertificatePHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Salary : $28.31 - $35.27 per hour
Employment Type : Full-Time
Schedule : Tuesday - Saturday from 7 : 45 AM - 4 : 45 PM
Benefits : available to all regular Salud employees working 24+ hours per week. Part-time employees may receive some benefits on a pro-rated basis.
