LABORATORY ASSISTANT- Phlebotomist

Western NC Community Health Services (WNCCHS) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). We are looking for a full-time talented and highly analytical Laboratory Assistant Phlebotomist to support our laboratory staff. Laboratory Assistant duties include drawing blood for clinical laboratory tests. Preparing and labelling laboratory samples for accurate processing. Performing special clinical and administrative tasks assigned by the supervisor.
The position is located at our Minnie Jones Health Clinic, 257 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801 . The position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 6 : 30 pm with a 30 minute lunch break.
QUALIFICATIONS :

RESPONSIBILITIES- Includes but not limited to the following :
1 . Explain phlebotomy or specimen collection procedures to patients and / or their caregivers
2 . Collect fluid or tissue samples, using appropriate collection procedures
3 . Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture method
4. Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methods
5. Collect specimens at specific time intervals for tests, such as those assessing therapeutic drug levels.
6. Prepare / process blood or other fluid samples for further analysis by other medical professionals
7. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
8. Organize and clean blood-drawing trays, ensuring that all instruments are sterile and all needles, syringes, or related items
are of first-time use
9. Dispose of blood or other biohazardous fluids or tissue according to applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures
10. Dispose of contaminated sharps according to applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures
11. Clean and disinfect all work areas according to applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures
12. As assigned, assist the supervisor with other tasks, e.g., ordering and stocking laboratory supplies, calling for technical
support / repairs of laboratory instruments, etc.
13. Perform special clinical and administrative tasks assigned by the supervisor
14 . Participate in mandatory in-services, drills, staff meetings and other trainings.
15. Perform duties in a prioritized, organized, and orderly manner to maximize efficiency and productivity.
16. Facilitate the maintenance of a clean, neat and well-organized work area.
17 . Participate in quality improvement activities by initiating or contributing to monitoring, measuring, analyzing, improving
and / or controlling program goals, objectives and / or services.
18 . Support current incentive, regulatory, and certification requirements (such as Meaningful Use, PCMH and UDS) through
documentation, participation in initiatives, and other activities as directed.
19 . Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay : From $18.50 to $20.64 per hour based on experience
