Position Summary :

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Genetic Counselor II - Cancer Center .

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting patients and their families in understanding hereditary cancer, as well as serving as educator and resource person for other health care professionals and the general public.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Provides genetic counseling for patients and their families referred for the High Risk- Cancer Genetics Program at NYU Langone, based at NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center.
  • Provides tailored cancer risk assessment for the individual / family for hereditary predisposition to cancer.
  • Effectively counsels patients and their families. Interviews patients and their families to review the family history of cancer, provides individualized cancer risk assessment, and effectively provides individual and group counseling to patients and their families.
  • Reviews complex cases with one of the hereditary cancer specialist physicians in the High Risk- Cancer Genetics Program.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the health care team and to take initiative and leadership as appropriate.
  • Show leadership in clinical duties and / or scholarship endeavors, which may include : representing the HRCGP and serving as the primary liaison between the team and PCC disease groups by attending treatment planning conferences / case conferences, establishing referral systems, developing disease specific counseling materials (letters, education materials, etc.

supervising students on clinical rotations, oversee a tumor screening program, multiple accepted abstracts, consult on research design and new research methods, develop a genetic counseling intervention for research.

Directs patients and their families to appropriate community agencies for long-term care or long-term follow-up counseling.

Effectively directs patients and their families to community agencies when appropriate. Seeks out community-based resources in order to better serve our patients.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

To qualify you must have a Masters Degree in genetic counseling from an accredited program. Board certification as a genetic counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).

At least three (3) years professional experience as a practicing genetic counselor..

Required Licenses : Certified Genetic Counselor

Preferred Qualifications :

Cancer genetic counseling experience is preferred, but not required. Experience working with multicultural audiences preferred.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements.

The salary range for the role is $80,000 - $110,625.60 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.

The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses / incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
